Evaluation

I think this project has turned out a lot more successful than I thought. I had changed my proposal quite a few times as my focus changed and fitted better with the aspect of light.

It was very hard to use the light aspect with the objects I had chosen, and in the end I just had to experiment on the spot with what the light does with the objects. I think in the end I have used light in an interesting way, that is successful to my proposal.

I had problems with making sure that the greyscale is balanced with all the photos, and that is something I really tried to fix, but may not be as good as I want it still.

Taking the photos without getting in the way of the light to create a successful photo was very hard but with a few maneouvers I think I worked well around it.

I would have liked to have a camera that could focus closer to the objects, I think that would have helped a bit more with successfully hiding the rest of the object. But i think I went around that problem well in the end.

Close up detail

Detail - I lilke this one better

Bowl - Form

Fork - Detail

Fork - Detail

Fork - Detail

I can't choose which one is more successful out of the fork details

Fork - Form

Glass - detail, I think I'd like to re-take

Glass - Form

Glass - Form (I like this one better)

Spoon - Form

I need to take a 'detail' picture of the spoon. I am out of ideas at the moment

Plan for shoot 4

Bowl Pictures:
Form:    Re-take the photos written about on blog post below.
Have the white balance correct and balanced for both photos
Check framing
For the second form photo try another angle just to see if there’s a cooler shape to create within the bowl, otherwise take one the same.
Detail:   make sure the light source is directly and only on the front of the bowl so it highlights the detail of the light ‘glimmer’ on the rim

Glass Pictures:
Form:    Retake the photos below
For the first form one where the glass is visible try a shorter aperture or maybe just frame the rim of the glass in the image
For the second form one just re-take checking framing and the white balance
Detail:  one has too much of the object in it so adjust the aperture so the detail is more focussed on, or change angle.

Fork Pictures:
Form:    try a lower angle so it gets rid of the ends of the fork, try adjusting the framing.
Detail:   Try taking the photo more close up and avoiding the shadow which may confuse the detail with form. Try and get the light to focus more on the detail or have it so it’s more obvious

Spoon Picture:
Form:    Adjust the framing and photoshop the white out
TAKE A DETAIL ONE

Ideas for set and working out photos to re-take

I've decided not to crop the photos to get rid of the fact you can see a lot of the object in the image. I think it would be better to change the direction of the light to block out the areas of the object I don't want to be shown and if needed use a shorter and narrower aperture. But I need to remember that the focus lies with how the light reveals the detail and form and not the way I take the photo and the d.o.f I've used.

Below are the best of the detail andd form of each object I've taken so far, and I'm going to underneath analyse whether they need to be re-taken and how successful the use of light is to reveal the form and detail. This will make my images and set more clearer because it's a bit confusing at the moment with many different photos everywhere.

Bowl: Form - Re-take to adjust white balance. Maybe try a different angle to see if I can get a different form shape through the shadow

Bowl: Form - Re-take to have shadow cover the entire inside of the bowl. So that the light detail on the bowl on the outside is more focussed on and it doesn't give the object away.

Glass: Form - I like the relationship between the form and the object but it may show too much of the object. I might try to use a shorter d.o.f if I want to use this photo

Glass: Form - I like the focus on the detail of the form here and it doesn't give away the object. I think I like this photo better than the oone above

Glass: Detail - I really like the way the light reflects and highlights the detail of the rim of the glass but I need to re-take this and have shorter aperture so that it takes away from the object and makes the detail more distinguishable

Fork: Form - I like the shadow the forks create but I think you can see too much of the fork so if I re-take the image I could try a different angle.

Fork: Form - I really like the shadow created by the fork, it is an interesting almost abstract form that works well in relationship with the abstract photo. If i re-took this I would take it at a lower angle so you do'nt see the fork bits at the end. The framing could be a bit tighter too

Fork: Detail - I think this photo is from too far away but I like how the light makes a dark shade on the back of the fork and the light has refracted on the side of the fork giving it a 3d effect. I think the detail is very bold in this photo but yes it needs to be closer up

Spoon: Form - I like the shadow and the reflection of the shadow on the bottom of the spoon. I need to re-take this image to fix framing and then on photoshop I want to make the handle and the white section on the joining of the spoon to the handle so that the spoon becomes less recogniseable and the form is highlighted. It would make this image more appealiing and interesting as the curve form would be suggested just through the shadow and its reflection on the bottom of the spoon.
